Dr Brite Natural Dental Care Review

Dr Brite Natural Dental Care Review

I’m finally back and am thrilled to share this Dr Brite natural dental care range with you!

(I’d also like to give you a quick recap of why you haven’t heard from me in a while, which I’ll share at the bottom of this post.)

At first I was only mildly excited about these products because despite the pretty eco-friendly packaging, let’s face it, new dental care is just not as thrilling as new makeup or skin care. I’m only human!

But since trying the range and reading about the Dr Brite brand, I’m in love with my new dental care routine. I didn’t think it’d be possible to feel so enthusiastic about toothpaste and mouthwash, but I am!

To help you understand the efficacy of the Dr Brite range, here are a few dental health goals I started with.

I wanted to see if Dr Brite could tick these 4 boxes –

  1. A fresh, minty flavour.
  2. A brilliant, clean feeling in the mouth.
  3. Whiter teeth (duh!)
  4. Better morning breath…ahem.

Now I’ll explore how Dr Brite delivered on each of the above 4 goals.

1. A fresh, minty flavour

Most people stay loyal to the same dental care products they’ve always used, for this reason. In the case of you green beauties though, it can be tricky to find a natural toothpaste and mouthwash that give you the right balance of minty flavour without the toxins.

In the past I’d tried an Ayurveda toothpaste that was so hot and intense it was uncomfortable. I’d also tried countless other natural toothpastes that didn’t have enough mint and within minutes of brushing I’d feel like I needed a tic-tac. Don’t even get me started on natural mouthwash.

Dark, nasty confession: I actually switched back to toxic toothpaste because I couldn’t find a natural one that ticked this box! (Also because my teeth are sensitive and my dentist had recommended I use Sensodyne Repair & Protect.)

Prior to this post I was using it for months and would cringe every time I brushed, trying not to think of all the toxins I was allowing into my system. So imagine my elation when I brushed with the Dr Brite Whitening Mineral Toothpaste for the first time and my mouth lit up with just the right balance of mint and sweetness. It’s exactly what I’d been looking for in a natural toothpaste.

The mint flavour still isn’t as strong as in a toxic toothpaste, but the combination of the toothpaste and Dr Brite Cleansing Mouth Rinse led to the ultimate in minty freshness. The best I’ve ever had across the board, in fact, and super long lasting!

The only experiential difference between the Dr Brite toothpaste and a toxic one is that it doesn’t foam. This is because Dr Brite don’t add the foaming agent, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), to their formulation. SLS is possibly carcinogenic to humans and may also cause negative effects in the kidneys, liver and central nervous system. So, um, I’ll live without the foam, thanks.

2. A brilliant, clean feeling in the mouth

Like most personal care ranges, these products have been formulated for best results when used together. I’m sure if it were possible to create a toothpaste and mouthwash all-in-one, someone would’ve done it by now. Until that happens, for the cleanest mouth and freshest breath, it’s best to use the Dr Brite Toothpaste and Cleansing Mouth Rinse together.

You already know what I love about the toothpaste, but the mouthwash is even more amazing. My mouth has never felt so clean and healthy and this is owing to the key ingredients of –

  • Aloe Vera juice – helps relieve dry mouth irritation
  • Vitamin C – helps reduce gum inflammation
  • Flavoured Spearmint with essential oils – freshens breath
  • Activated white charcoal – helps draws toxins from the teeth and mouth
  • Organic coconut oil – anti-bacterial

Wow, that’s a lot of healthy goodness in one little mouthwash!

It says on the label to swish teeth and gums for at least 30 seconds to a full minute so I’ve been a good student and followed these directions to a tee. The results in my oral hygiene have been astounding, but more on that when I get to goal #4.

3. Whiter teeth

The Dr Brite Teeth Whitening Pen claims to whiten your teeth by 2 shades in 2 days. That’s a tall order when you consider the amount of coffee and tea drinkers in the USA where Dr Brite is manufactured! So I was pretty skeptical when I started, but was actually pleasantly surprised with the results. I didn’t take proper before and after shots (because I’m lazy), but here are 2 selfies taken 2 days apart.

After the first day I realised I hadn’t been using the pen properly because I didn’t discover the online instructions until I started writing this post (oops). So I don’t think my teeth whitened by 2 shades, but definitely at least one shade in 2 days, so I was pretty pleased with the outcome. I’m going to continue using the whitening pen because I do think it works.

The best part? No sensitivity or pain from bleaching and no mega toxins like the ones found in mainstream whitening products. Dr Brite use a food-grade hydrogen peroxide, which makes for a much safer and more gentle whitening agent. Better for your teeth too since chemical bleaching can etch the enamel.

Here are the instructions from the Dr Brite US site in case you decide to try the pen –

Apply 2-3 times a day until the gel is finished. Each pen lasts for 20-30 treatments.

  1. Brush and floss teeth then dry teeth with a tissue
  2. Click the end of the pen about 20 times before the first use until gel appears
  3. Apply gel on the surface of each tooth with a firm pressure in a circular motion
  4. Keep your mouth open and let the gel dry for two minutes
  5. No need to rinse the gel off just avoid eating or drinking anything for 30 minutes
  6. Repeat up to 3 times per day

4. Better morning breath

Please forgive me, but for all intents and purposes, I’m about to overshare. One of the many drawbacks of having chronic illness and digestive issues is having extra terrible morning breath. My fiancé and I joke about it all the time because we both have tummy problems and atrocious breath in the A.M. I tell him he has “garbage breath” and his morning nickname for me is “Smelly”. Super romantic right?

So imagine my surprise when after only a day and a half of using the Dr Brite toothpaste and mouth rinse, my morning breath wasn’t perfect, but it was better. Usually when I kiss my beau in the morning he looks like he just got sucker-punched in the face, but since I’ve been using Dr Brite, he only has a mild grimace. Yes!

Not only that, but I can actually taste a difference. When I wake up my first urge isn’t to run and rinse my mouth before I come in contact with other humans. I can actually tolerate my own, now almost normal, morning breath. Yay!

I should point out that I’ve also been using Dr Tung’s Smart Floss and it’s like a dream compared to normal synthetic floss.

Here’s why I love it –

  • It smells like Cardamom.
  • It’s clinically proven to remove up to 55% more plaque.
  • It’s super soft and more comfortable than mainstream floss (no bleeding).
  • It has more surface area to really get into those nooks and crannies.
  • It’s made with natural plant and beeswax coating.
  • It’s not tested on animals (yes, traditional floss has been tested on animals, as has almost everything else in your medicine cabinet).

I’m guessing that if my floss is now doing up to a 55% better job, this is having a big impact on my breath. Less food particles in my mouth overnight means a cleaner oral environment and therefore fresher breath. When combined with the cleaning and detoxifying effects of the Dr Brite range, it’s a triple threat of natural oral cleansing action! My mouth has never felt or looked this good. [Insert animated tooth twinkle here.]

But wait, there’s more.

When I began reading about the brand, I felt even more conviction that I’d made the right choice to explore more natural options for my dental routine. Not only have I done my health a service by decreasing my toxic load and improving my oral hygiene, but by choosing these ethical brands I’ve also made a socially conscious choice without even really knowing it.

More reasons why I love Dr Brite –

Dr Brite is a women-owned business created by two sisters, one an established dentist (Pooneh) and the other a successful breast cancer surgeon (Paris). Dr Brite was born after Paris observed a rise in patients with breast cancer even without family history. She did some research and found a link between toxins in personal care products and breast cancer and shared it with her sister.

Pooneh began researching ingredients in the oral care products she’d been recommending to her patients and realised with alarm that most of them were toxic and harmful. She began to seek more natural products to recommend, but soon realised that there weren’t any available.

Soon after this discovery, the two sisters decided to take it upon themselves to create a natural and ethical oral care brand and began formulating the very first Dr Brite toothpaste in a pink kitchen mixer! Their first product launch was in late 2015 and less than a year later Dr Brite have already expanded their range and are a thriving eco-business shipping to customers around the world. So inspiring!

The Dr Brite products are formulated with the highest-quality, plant-derived, organic ingredients.

They also have a goal of becoming a zero-waste company by 2019! They’re already on the right track with…

  • Eco-friendly packaging (recyclable, BPA-free and non-toxic).
  • Sustainable and responsible ingredient sourcing.
  • A biodegradable product.
  • A small batch, handmade method of manufacturing.
  • A practice of only buying ingredient quantities as needed.

Not to mention, they donate 5% of their annual revenue to non-profits, including large donations of oral care products to people and pets in need. Wow! This is certainly a brand with a social conscience and I could probably wax poetic all day about how great they are, but I think you get the gist.

Dr Brite is available at Nourished Life in Australia so if this post has inspired you to trial this outstanding natural dental care range, then click here to go shopping now.

Also, don’t forget Dr Tung’s Smart Floss as I think this is also a key to truly amazing oral hygiene. It’s also available at Nourished Life.

Now for a quick update on The Good Beauty Co….

These have been exciting times! Since May I’ve –

  • Moved into a beautiful new home with my partner.
  • Gone on a 6-week holiday to Europe (Italy and the Greek isles), my first ever.
  • Gotten engaged (in Italy).
  • Started noticing signs of recovery from chronic illness.

Wow, a lot can happen in 5 months and I’ve loved every minute, but sadly just didn’t have enough time between all the activity, plus allowing myself proper rest, to focus on the blog. So I apologise for the serious lack of posts, but can assure you that I’m back with more passion and drive than ever to bring you the BEST of the organic beauty world.

I want this blog to be the go-to place for natural beauty reviews and tips in Australia and I have big plans. We’re going places baby, so expect to see a lot more in the coming months.

I’d love to know what you’ve been up to as well, so if you have any exciting news, please share in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you.

Also, if you have any questions about this post please ask. I’d love to help in any way I can.

Love,
Alicia xx
