If I had a facial for every time a client said they didn’t have time for skin care, I’d be as youthful as a baby’s bum by now.
At a first consultation, my new clients tell me they want their skin to look dewy, glowing, youthful, etc. But when I explain the steps in an anti-aging routine, bless their hearts, they suddenly have objections:
“I don’t have enough time before work”, “I’m too busy with my kids”, “I’m too lazy.”
What they don’t understand, is that amazing skin is like any other goal. It requires:
- A small amount of scheduling.
- A commitment, based on a desire for GORGEOUS skin.
- A few actionable steps, plus some effort.
Luckily, it’s more pleasurable than going to the gym or taking out the rubbish!
Essentially, it’s an act of self-indulgence because, let’s face it, not everyone has the luxury of a skin care routine. So, it’s really something to be grateful for.
Ideally, your anti-aging skin care routine should:
- Make you feel refreshed and revitalised.
- Make your skin look INCREDIBLE.
- Relax you.
- Prepare you for an awesome day or a good night’s sleep.
- Only take you 5 minutes.
How to do your anti-aging routine in under 5:
1. Cleanse in the shower with warm water and a facecloth
The shower is more convenient than standing over the sink, plus the warm water dissolves the dirt, makeup and oils quicker than cold, while the face cloth helps remove residue faster.
This should only take you 1-2 minutes, depending on how much makeup you wear.
2. Don’t wait for toners/serums/creams to dry
Skin care absorbs better when your skin is slightly damp, so just get on with it!
If your products aren’t absorbing and your face feels slick, they’re probably full of petroleum and animal fat. Time for a change.
This should only take you 2-3 minutes, tops!
3. Choose products with time-saving nozzles and pumps
Bottles, pots and jars with lids require extra steps i.e. removing and replacing the lids.
Mist toners and eco-friendly air-pumps are quick and easy to use, more hygienic and help your products last longer.
One last tip for the desperately time-poor peeps:
Compromise and opt for a more basic version of your routine once a day when you have less time. Then, do your full routine once a day when you have more.
For example, in the morning you could just cleanse and apply day cream (only 2 steps). Then at night, you could do your full routine – cleanse, tone and apply serum, eye cream and night cream (5 steps).
So, 2 quick steps in the morning and 5 relaxing steps at night to help you unwind before bed, easy!
BUT, a word to the wise:
If you’d prefer NOT to resort to Botox or other synthetic procedures, then your anti-aging skin care routine should be your non-negotiable, holy grail part of your day.
Beautiful skin is all about PREVENTION and PROTECTION, rather than REVERSAL.
You’ve been warned. 😉
